Have a Magical Ramadhan!
As expected, Dublin began fasting a day earlier than Malaysia and London. I kept myself busy the whole day entertaining the baby trying not to drown myself in sorrow thinking of all the wonderful food and celebration (tarawikh, sahur etc) back home. The house feels empty again as the Daddy is back oncall tonight covering a sick colleague, poor him. I hope the emergency room stays quiet tonight so that he gets to eat in peace.
I remember how I used to run in between patients to grab a bar of chocolate and the nurses yelling, ‘ Where do you think you’re going?? Yada, yada, yada. This child needs to be seen! Yada, yada, yada’. And for their sake, at times you do end-up having iftar an hour later. Mmmm…so on the bright side of things, I should be thankful that I am getting paid leave and away from all the stress. With winter coming up, school reopening next week and H1N1, it will be a challenging time for my paediatric colleagues.
Aidan had his vaccination 2 days ago and acted so brave. I was the emotional one and to think that I have given so many injections to babies. I sometimes believe that it is best to not treat your own child as your judgement can get clouded when emotions kick-in. On one occasion, the daddy insisted I bring Aidan to the local Health Center for his formal developmental checkup even though he was achieving his milestones for his age- finally I gave in. I got a mouthful from the doctor for bringing Aidan 2 weeks late for his 6 week checkup, if only he knew I was a doctor too! Haha. That was fun but in actual fact I wasn’t too impressed with the guy. He was rough with Aidan (he stabbed him hard in the thigh with the vaccination needle) and his skills were all over the place. I came home really upset that day telling daddy I would have done a much, much better job. Moral of the story – always go to someone who is Paediatric trained!
Oh this is getting too long, I promise less babbling next time.
Till my next post, toodles!
